Grigory Rodchenkov. What Fogel didn’t know when he went to Moscow to trail his new friend around with a camera was that he’d wind up inside Russia’s national “anti-doping” laboratory, which was really a front for Russia’s state-run program to juice its Olympic athletes - with alleged ties to Vladimir Putin - of which Rodchenkov happened to be the chief architect.įogel’s realization that Rodchenkov isn’t just a guy in a Russian sports lab, but the guy (and possibly Putin’s fall guy), didn’t come till much later on. He also didn’t know that his footage from that day would become evidence of a criminal operation and an institutional conspiracy. Fate brought him to a jolly, mustachioed guy in Russia with a penchant for shirtless Skype sessions. He got his PEDs from an American doctor (they’re the same drugs used in controversial men’s anti-aging regimens), but had to look elsewhere for a scientist with a questionable moral compass who’d coach him in how to dope and get away with it. He was an amateur cyclist and second-time filmmaker in Los Angeles with a harebrained idea to try out doping himself, and do it on camera - kind of like Super Size Me of performance-enhancing drugs. When director Bryan Fogel set out to make his jaw-dropping, absolutely insane doping documentary, Icarus, he didn’t know that he’d walk away with exclusive footage of what may go down as the biggest scandal in the history of sport. And if you want to see how it went down, all you have to do turn on Netflix. Grigory Rodchenkov, of a brazen and pervasive state-run doping program that has likely tainted Russian results for the entirety of modern Olympic history. This comes after incontrovertible evidence emerged last year, much of it from a whistle-blower named Dr. In what once seemed like an unfathomable turn of events, Russia has been banned from competing in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. We’ve updated it to include context about the Olympics banning Russia from the 2018 Winter Games. This piece originally ran in August 2017.

I'm here reporting on the 20th anniversary celebration for the Ciudad de Angeles ( children's home supported by Churches of Christ. Scott Eller, who is featured in my story along with his wife, Andrea, picked us up at the airport. We finally took off from Houston about 5:15 p.m.Īfter our two-hour flight, a medium-sized customs line greeted us at Cozumel International Airport. But they were a big part of educating me about the City of Angels, its mission and its history. Their part of my actual story took up just three paragraphs. Our interview (at least the part I recorded) lasted 48 minutes. In the Hobby terminal, I took advantage of my time with the Bushes and talked to them about their work with the orphanage. Jodi serves on the ministry’s board, representing Eastside. The Bushes have made numerous short-term mission trips to Cozumel and provided financial support for the children. Jodi is the facility manager for Pikes Peak Christian School, which is housed at Eastside. Mark is an elder of the Eastside Church of Christ in Colorado Springs, Colo., one of the City of Angels’ eight anchor congregations in the U.S. Mark and Jodi Bush wait during a flight delay at Hobby Airport in Houston. I pray that the security situation will improve. That’s evidenced by the deadly abduction of Americans caught in a shootout this week in the border city of Matamoros.Įven though my Spanish is limited, I always enjoy meeting my Christian brothers and sisters south of the U.S. Obviously, the drug cartels have made travel to certain parts of Mexico more difficult in recent years. I haven’t made it to all 31 Mexican states, but I’ve been blessed to cover stories in a handful of them: Baja California, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Tamaulipas and now Quintana Roo. In my career, I’ve reported from all 50 U.S. Related: In a Mexican resort city, Christians care for homeless ‘angels’ That children’s home, which is supported by Churches of Christ, cares for orphaned, abused and abandoned boys and girls in Cozumel, as I explain in my story. I flew to the Mexican resort city to cover the 20th anniversary celebration by the Ciudad de Ángeles - “City of Angels” in English. “Uh huh,” their responses seemed to say, as if I might have an ulterior motive. COZUMEL, Mexico - When I told friends I was traveling to Cozumel on a reporting trip for The Christian Chronicle, they chuckled. Latency is the wall-clock time measured from the moment immediately before we send the probe request to the moment when we receive the last byte of the response. If for any reason (including network failure) a valid HTTP response isn't received for a probe, the probe is counted as a failure. Health probe responses ResponsesĪ 200 OK status code indicates the backend is healthy. For new Front Door profiles, by default, the probe method is set as HEAD.įor lower load and cost on your backends, Front Door recommends using HEAD requests for health probes. HEAD: The HEAD method is identical to GET except that the server MUST NOT return a message-body in the response.GET: The GET method means retrieve whatever information (in the form of an entity) is identified by the Request-URI.Supported HTTP methods for health probesĪzure Front Door supports the following HTTP methods for sending the health probes: These probes are sent over the same TCP ports configured for routing client requests, and cannot be overridden. Supported protocolsĪzure Front Door supports sending probes over either HTTP or HTTPS protocols. There could be more than one POP in each edge location.Īzure Front Door HTTP/HTTPS probes are sent with User-Agent header set with value: Edge Health Probe. For a list of edge locations, see edge locations by region for Azure Front Door. The probing requests will be less if there is no traffic sent to all of the edge POPs. The probe volume on each of your origin is equal to the number of edge POPs times two requests per minute. If there is customer traffic to all the Azure Front Door edge POP, the health probe volume can be high depending on your health probes frequency.Īn example to roughly estimate the health probe volume per minute to your origin when using the default probe frequency of 30 seconds. If the Azure Front Door edge POP doesn’t receive real traffic from your end users, the frequency of the health probe from the edge POP is decreased from the configured frequency. The number of probes depends on your customer's traffic location and your health probe frequency. Since each Azure Front Door edge POP emits health probes to your origins, the health probe volume for your origins can be quite high. Azure Front Door then uses these responses from the probe to determine the "best" origin to route your client requests. To determine the health and proximity of each backend for a given Azure Front Door environment, each Front Door environment periodically sends a synthetic HTTP/HTTPS request to each of your configured origins. An Origin and a origin group in this article refers to the backend and backend pool of the Azure Front Door (classic) configuration. In July of 1979, he produced AC/DC's hard rock album, "Highway to Hell," which went to number eight on the U.K. He also produced Ipswich Town's FA Cup final single called "Ipswich Get That Goal." He agreed to do this because the team had a South Africa-born player named Colin Viljoen. In 1978, he produced "Rat Trap" for The Boomtown Rats, which topped the charts in the U.K. band, City Boy, and produced five of their albums between then and 1979. Beginning in 1976, he started working with the U.K. In 1976, he began his career in music production in earnest, though he did not produce any hit singles until a couple of years later. He relocated to the United Kingdom in order to have more opportunities in the music industry. The group went on to record one album and release five singles. The group did not last very long and Lange founded a different group, Hocus, in 1971. In 1969, Lange formed the band Sound Reason along with James Borthwick, a South African television, film, and stage actor. After finishing, he decided to focus on pursuing a career in music. While there, he started a band in which he played rhythm guitar and sang harmonies.įrom 1966 to 1967, Lange completed his required national service. Lange attended Belfast High School in what is now Mpumalanga province. He was a particular fan of country music in his early life. Lange was nicknamed Mutt from an early age and grew up constantly listening to music. His mother was German and came from a well-to-do family while his father was a South African mining engineer. He was raised in Durban, South Africa by his parents. Lange was born on Novemin Mufulira, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) and given the name Robert John Lange. How do I save WeChat pictures to my computer?.Can you save a WeChat sight video on a computer?. First Time Opening the Game on Steam Deck After double checking that my “Force Compatibility Mode” was checked and Proton Experimental was checked, it was time to play. I found what the id for AC Origins for my subscription version was, so my launch command line became: uplay://launch/3539/0. I found the list of Ubisoft game ids via a github page. The format of the launch option is: uplay://launch/ /0. Once AC Origins installed, I updated one of my Ubisoft Connect Non-Steam game shortcuts with the AC Origins name and added a run option to open the game via Ubisoft Connect. The main difference is the Steam Deck installation should go into the same z:home\home\deck\Games\Ubisoft Game Launcher\ folder. Once Ubisoft Connect did load, I was able to initiate the download of Assassin’s Creed Origins like I did on my PC already. Setting up Ubisoft Connect Plus Version of AC Origins AC Origin Runs Well On Deck After recent updates, the load time is much faster. It took a few minutes before everything loaded up and my Plus membership was the last thing, of course. I then opened Ubisoft Connect via the Non-Steam game shortcut I created. When I finally reached that milestone, I switched back to Steam Deck game mode (there’s a desktop icon shortcut for that). I ended up creating a 2nd duplicate Non-Steam game shortcut to setup my AC Origins shortcut later. At one point one of the Proton GE options was the only thing that worked for me. The default “Proton Experimental” is working great for me, but there are other options on that menu to try. Getting to Properties Forcing the Compatibility Mode The Properties of that new “Non-Steam game” entry include a “Force Compatibility Mode” that must be checked. Once Ubisoft Connect installed in that Steam Deck game mode directory, I use the Steam option to Add a Non-Steam game to point to the exe: z:home\home\deck\Games\Ubisoft Game Launcher\UbisoftConnect.exe. If Ubisoft Connect does not play nice installing directly in desktop mode, then some people have success adding the installation file as a Non-Steam game like I do below for the Ubisoft Connect EXE file. Installation from there was standard fair, but the “proper” way is to install into the Steam Deck game mode directory: z:home\home\deck\Games\. Finally Installing Ubisoft Connect on Steam Deck Hopefully, the popularity of the Steam Deck changes that, but I overcame that by just downloading from Digital Trends. The website didn’t want me to download the client due since I was on a Linux PC. With familiar PC controls in place, I opened up the Ubisoft Connect website to download the client, but hit a snag. That’s great, but the next issue to overcome is where is the keyboard? Another online search revealed a press of the Steam Button X opens and closes the keyboard. The left touch pad click serves as right click. Once in desktop mode, the right touch pad is a suitable mouse with the click serving as left mouse button. Turns out, holding the power button displays the necessary menu option to open desktop mode. In order to even start that process, I had to search on how to get to desktop mode. Getting Started with Ubisoft Connect on Steam Deckįirst step was downloading the Ubisoft Connect client. There were plenty of those extra steps, but now it’s fairly simple to setup the next game. With that value proposition and the length of Assassin’s Creed games, it’s worth some extra steps to get Ubisoft Connect up and running on my Steam Deck. If it takes less than 6 months to get through the AC Origins content, I’ve already saved money. Even now, the full game is $60 and the season pass is $40. For the $15 per month I pay now, I have access to all Ubisoft games and all DLC. It’s easy enough to buy a game on Steam, but my Ubisoft Connect Plus subscription less expensive in the long run. Controller profiles and graphic settings are also usually sorted out automatically, especially for those in “Verified” status. The verification status of the game is clear with any caveats listed for those not at “Verified” status (like hard to read text or launcher required). With the Steam Deck, it’s easier to buy the game on Steam. Setting up Ubisoft Connect on Steam Deck Ubisoft Connect on Steam Deck I’m happy to report I figured it out and now I’ve fully unlocked the power of my Ubisoft subscription games. Sure I could buy AC Origins on Steam and have a mostly frictionless experience, but I wanted to figure out the whole Ubisoft Connect Plus on Steam Deck thing. After finishing up God of War on Steam Deck, I wanted to setup AC Origin via Ubisoft Connect on my Steam Deck. Speaking to EW, Henderson said: "The show of course is about romance, but a lot of what appeals to people is the idea that all these people are broken. (Poor Jack has been through a lot.) Even on top of the fatherhood situation-his prospective custody battle over the twins, not to mention Mel's ex-husband potentially being the father of her baby-Henderson hinted to TV Line that Jack's ex-wife of three months, Mandy, might just make a return. "Mandy showing up in Virgin River would complicate things even more. Season four is likely to be a rocky journey for Jack.well, another one. I liked the idea of putting Jack in a vulnerable situation, which is he can't remember something simple." And to TV Insider, she shared (opens in new tab): "The person who pulled the trigger and wanted him dead are the same person, but Calvin and Jimmy and the failed raid in Season 2 and him getting shot all intersect with all the rest of it." Alexandra Breckenridge, who plays Mel, laughed to TV Insider (opens in new tab): "Well, I know who shot Jack!" Showrunner Sue Tenney told Entertainment Weekly: (opens in new tab) "I always wanted it to be a slow burn. Like I said, we'll find out who shot Jack in season four.right? Um.probably. (Image credit: Netflix) What the Cast Says Jack It starts as very antagonistic. In the slow burn category, you'll see moments coming up that are going to open up that relationship." Tenney told EW: "The more fun relationship is the one between Muriel and Hope. To us, it's the recovery and what she's dealing with-a traumatic brain injury." In a later interview with EW, O'Toole noted, "A traumatic brain injury is such a huge thing that happens not just to the person, but to the people around them, and in her case, the community, since she's the mayor.I loved coming back and having a lot to do and something that was that organic and that I could play within the bounds of because a brain injury is unique to each person."Īlso of note: Hope and Muriel may also become friends in season four, if you can believe it. Tenney confirmed to EW that Hope will survive her car accident at the end of season three. But don't worry both O'Toole and Hope will be back for the fourth season of Virgin River (phew). Hope's absence in season three, aside from video chat, was due to COVID-19 filming restrictions-she couldn't get to Vancouver to film with the rest of the cast. Oddly absent from the whole of season three was Annette O'Toole, who plays the town's mayor, Hope, who was (and will be again) married to the local doctor, Doc Mullins. (Image credit: Netflix) Hope In 'Virgin River' Season 4 We also have some first-look photos, courtesy of Netflix: (As if Preacher wasn't in enough jeopardy!) "There’s a big reveal when we open Season 4 that puts certain people in jeopardy," she revealed. Season four is going to be a roller coaster from the very first minute, Tenney shared with TV Insider. And speaking of Jack-we'll finally, find out who shot him. Charmaine will give birth to the twins, and we'll probably see a showdown between her and Todd, and Jack, the biological father of her children. We're likely to see Paige again after her absence for the whole of the third season, and hopefully she'll be reunited with Christopher. Mel and Jack will deal with the unknowns of her pregnancy and decide whether they can make it work (for your peace of mind, the actors who play them have been clear that they definitely will (opens in new tab)). The coming season will see a boatload of new storylines, but this past season set up a number of arcs: We'll no doubt see Ricky make a decision about enlisting, and potentially see him leave Virgin River-and Lizzie-behind. Alexandra Breckenridge also clarified the timeline in an interview with Glamour, saying that season four picks up "around seven to 14 days" after the end of season three. “Season four reveals and answers all the questions, but then presents some more,” Martin Henderson (Jack) told The Digital Fix. Meanwhile, Lizzie broke things off with Ricky and went back to her slimy ex-boyfriend after she discovered Ricky was enlisting Brady was arrested as a suspect in Jack's shooting after a similar gun is found in his car Charmaine and Todd threatened Jack with an explosive custody battle over the twins and, of course, Hope is in hospital with a brain injury following a car accident. Virgin River season three ended (opens in new tab) on cliffhangers for many of the characters-particularly Preacher, who was poisoned by a former friend of Paige's to get him out of the way as part of a plot to kidnap Christopher, and of course Mel and Jack, who are dealing with the aftermath of Mel's revelation that she's pregnant-but they don't know if the father is Jack or her late ex-husband Mark.
